3D Worlds
A visual, hands-on way to align teams, reduce complexity, and make better decisions—fast.

Created by Janek Panneitz. Facilitated and trained by me across Belgium and Germany on demand.

What is 3D Worlds?

3D Worlds is a powerful, collaborative visualization method for building a shared understanding. It blends mind-mapping, prioritization, and constellation work into a single, tangible experience—so people see relationships, talk about what matters, and commit together.

Why teams love it

  • Cuts complexity without dumbing things down

  • Makes relationships and interdependencies visible

  • Builds shared understanding across roles and silos

  • Great for values, strategy, OKRs, and cross-team collaboration

  • Flexible: update it as contexts and constraints change

How it works (at a glance)

  1. Capture ideas on flexible hexagon tiles.

  2. Cluster into “topic islands” to reveal themes.

  3. Use distance to show how closely topics connect.

  4. Use height to surface priorities (and spark good debate).

  5. Add layers (tokens/markers) for stakeholders, risks, ownership, or impact.

There are four modular phases—each valuable on its own. Even if you stop early, you’ll leave with a clear, shared map of your discussion (far more engaging than a flat sticky-note wall).

When to use it

  • Team Kick-Offs: clarify scope, responsibilities, and collaboration patterns
Guiding question: “We’re two years in the future—what key activities are we known for?”

  • OKR Workshops: align on what truly matters next quarter and how we’ll measure impact
Guiding question: “What outcomes matter most in the next 3 months?”

  • Strategy Sessions: connect success factors, initiatives, risks, and enabling capabilities
Guiding question: “What must be true to reach our goals?”

Why it works across contexts

  • Breaks hierarchy & silos: everyone contributes, ideas are visible and comparable

  • Creates one picture of reality: easy to bring newcomers up to speed

  • Drives clarity & focus: natural prioritization and trade-off conversations

  • Inclusive & participative: people see themselves in the result, so they own it

  • Outcome-oriented by design: ties nicely into OKRs and value hypotheses

In practice (examples)

  • Change-readiness map for a new program: work packages, owners, risks, dependencies

  • Quarterly OKR shaping: outcomes, leading indicators, key bets, value tracking

  • Cross-silo strategy: align product, platform, and enablement streams on a single map

  • Stakeholder constellation: interests, influence, and collaboration patterns made visible

Training & facilitation

I offer hands-on trainings to learn the 3D Worlds method and facilitation for your real workshops—OKR shaping, strategy alignment, or any complex topic that needs shared understanding.

Typical formats

  • Facilitated workshop (½–1 day): bring your topic, leave with a clear 3D map & next steps

  • Facilitator training (2 days): learn the method, practice, and take away a ready-to-run kit

  • Coach clinic (1 hour): Sparring with 3D Worlds for your case OKRs, portfolio, or strategy reviews

What you leave with

  • A photographed 3D map (and a digital capture) of clusters, priorities, and relationships

  • Decisions, assumptions, and next steps documented

  • Draft or refined OKRs if relevant (objective, value-based KRs, owners, signals)

  • Clear follow-ups and a lightweight cadence to keep momentum

FAQ (short)

Is this just another sticky-note workshop?
No—the spatial logic (distance, height, layers) turns talk into structure. That’s where clarity comes from.

Do we need to finish all phases?
No—each phase stands on its own. You’ll get value even if we stop early.

Does it work with remote teams?
No. The power comes with the interaction on the map.
